Position: EMT- P | Paramedic

Minimum Qualifications

Applicant must be a minimum of 20 years of age and hold a High School Diploma or equivalent supplemented by college-level course work. Emergency Medical Paramedic (EMT-P) Certification from a recognized paramedic training program. State of California Licensure with Los Angeles County accreditation.

Primary Function

Under general supervision, provide the appropriate level of care to the ill, and injured. Perform direct illness/injury assessment and management, preparation for transport, transfer of information and compassionate patient care.

Required Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

  • State of California Paramedic Licensure,
  • Los Angeles County Paramedic Licensure Accreditation,
  • CPR, and First Aid certification,
  • ACLS/PALS Certification,
  • Current Ambulance Driver Certification (Required for Driver applicants),
  • Current Medical Examiners Certificate (Required for Driver applicants),
  • Current California Driver’s License (Required for Driver applicants),
  • DMV H-6 Printout Record (no more than 30 days old),
  • In good standing with State & County EMSA
  • Insurable driving record

Paramedic duties, and responsibilities shall include, but not limited to the following and can include additional duties that may be assigned.

  • Provide EMT shift coverage based on call volume needs.
  • Must be timely and arrive on time as scheduled to comply with Company Policies, and EMS standards.
  • Respond to instructions from dispatch, and drive the emergency vehicle to specified locations,
  • Administer, care to sick or injured persons in pre-hospital settings; perform such activities as, but not limited to first-aid, immobilization of injuries, application of splints, administration of oxygen, treatment of minor wounds or abrasions,
  • Removes or assists in removal of victims from vehicles, or the scene of an accident or catastrophe, assists in the transfer of victims, and possess the knowledge of, and apply the appropriate level of care, and assists in the transfer of victims to receiving facilities.
  • Have knowledge, and operation of equipment such as, but not limited to EKGs, external defibrillators, and bag-valve mask resuscitators.
  • Attend to medical requests as they may arise and render the appropriate level of care, and assistance to ill or injured patients as required.
  • Perform initial assessment and management of illness or injury to emergency patients in accordance with specified protocols and procedures.
  • Takes and records patient’s vital signs, including blood pressure, pulse, and respiratory rate
  • Prepare, or assist in the preparation of patients for transport, ensuring compliance with local regulations, protocols, and procedures.
  • Provide comprehensive patient care as required in each individual case.
  • Lead, guide, and/or assist in the training of EMT’s and/or students as specifically assigned.
  • Follow established company policies, procedures and objectives, continuous quality improvement objectives, safety, environmental standards and/or infection control standards.
  • Inspect medical equipment to ensure serviceability, and compliance with safety, and infection control regulations and standards.
  • Assist with equipment, medication, and supply inventory management.
  • Complete Patient Care Reports (PCR’s), and transfer patient care information, and records as per local protocols, and established company policies, and procedures.
  • Protect the privacy of all patient information as required by federal (and state) law and in accordance with general principles of professionalism as a health care provider taking every reasonable precaution to maintain security and protection of sensitive information.
  • Assists admitting and billing personnel to obtain and record information related to the patient’s vital statistics and to establish the necessity for medical transportation.
  • Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
  • Safely operate company vehicle in accordance with state law, and Company protocols (including during emergent, and/or stressful situations).
  • Completes daily driver’s unit checkout form.
  • Maintain a thorough working knowledge of local geography, which includes maps, streets, and grid book systems.

  • Ability to maintain quality, safety and/or infection control standards.
  • At least 1 year of experience in the field of pre-hospital EMS.
  • Report writing and records maintenance skills.
  • Knowledge of, and skill in the application of advanced paramedic protocol and procedures.
  • Knowledge of, and skill in the application of basic on-site medical protocol and procedures.
  • Ability to react calmly, and effectively in emergency situations.
  • Knowledge of related accreditation and certification requirements.
  • Knowledge of the use of medical transport procedures, facilities and equipment.
  • Ability to provide guidance and support to EMT staff and/or students.
  • Knowledge of medical equipment maintenance regulations and policy standards.

Physical Demands:

The Physical Demands of a Paramedic may vary significantly depending upon the situation in which they are called upon to perform their duties.  Therefore, the ability to perform these demands efficiently is essential for the health, and safety of self, co-workers, and patients.

Physical Requirements:

Occasionally: Climbing, kneeling, running distance. Lift and/or move up to 200 pounds.

Frequently: Walking inside and outside, lifting 100 pounds, pushing, pulling, reaching, balancing, carrying stopping, bending, leaning, sitting, driving ambulance. Standing, use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear.

Constantly:  Hearing/listening, clear speech, touching, smelling, upper and lower body flexibility, seeing, (Including close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus) multiple physical activities at the same time.
